Canon kicks off construction of Vietnam second jet printer plant
Japanese office equipment giant Canon Inc began Saturday construction of its second jet printer factory in northern Bac Ninh province’s Tien Son Industrial Zone.
The factory, with an investment capital of US$70 million, is to come on line in April 2007 turning out 700,000 printers per month, all of which will be exported. It will allow Canon to raise its overall annual output to some 30 million units by 2010, up from a planned 20 million units this year, Canon’s spokesman said. A Canon spokesman said the factory would handle the entire manufacturing process through assembly. The factory will employ around 3,500 workers in the first phase. In the second phase, Canon plans to funnel an additional investment of $40 million and recruit 2,500-3,000 more workers for the factory.Canon’s first jet printer factory in the country is located in Hanoi’s Thang Long Industrial Zone and earned revenues of $410 million last year. The group also owns a laser printer plant in Bac Ninh province’s Que Vo Industrial Zone that employs some 500 workers and became operational last year.
