Canon to Enter Digital Printer Market, Compete With Xerox
    June
06 — Canon Inc., the world’s biggest copier maker, said it will enter
the market for commercial digital printers to compete against Xerox
Corp.Canon will this year start making the devices, which are used by
printing companies, spokesman Hiroshi Yoshinaga said, responding to an
earlier Nihon Keizai newspaper report. The printers can directly
process data from personal computers without photo engraving. In five
years, the company aims for 20 percent of the global market, which is
estimated at between 800 billion yen ($7 billion) and 1 trillion yen.
Xerox, the biggest U.S. maker of copiers and printers, has 50 percent
of the digital printer market, the Nihon Keizai said.“Printing
companies will print in high volumes, which means we can also expect
sales of consumables” such as paper and toner, Yoshinaga said, without
    providing a sales forecast.
