    China Has the Second Largest Paper Industry in the World, with Higher Paper Production and Consumption Rates Than Japan
    China’s
    paper industry has become the second-largest in the world, with its
    paper production and consumption exceeding that of Japan. This
    one-of-a-kind study examines the market for plain copier paper use in
    mainland China. The document covers cover copier paper for plain paper
    copiers and provides market estimates for 2002 and 2003, as well as a
    forecast for 2004 through 2008.
    In conducting this study, we hoped
    to gain a greater understanding of the market for plain copier paper
    use in mainland China. This document will cover copier paper for plain
    paper copiers (hereinafter referred to as copier paper).
    This document provides market estimates for 2002 and 2003, as well as a forecast for 2004 through 2008.
    This
    study was compiled via primary research in the form of face-to-face
    interviews and telephone interviews that were conducted between May
    2004 and July 2004. 16 copier paper manufacturers were interviewed in
    China and its branch offices (5 in Beijing, 4 in Shanghai, 5 in Guang
    Zhou, 2 in other regions). GSM Corporation also interviewed 22 major
    paper merchants (8 in Beijing, 8 in Shanghai, 6 in Guang Zhou) and 2
    paper industry associations (Paper Manufacturer Association of
    China/Printing and Printing Equipment Industries Association of China).
