Clover: We Need Your Tech Junk

    By Dana L. Brumbelow

Recycle, renew and raise money!  The Funding Factory turns your eWaste into cash for the Culpeper County Library (and other nonprofits) by recycling empty printer cartridges and cell phones.  It’s free, easy and good for the environment.

How does this work?  Individuals simply turn in their qualifying eWaste to the library.  Businesses or others wishing to donate in bulk register with Funding Factory and are provided free shipping materials and prepaid UPS labels (more details provided below).  There are no expiration dates or deadlines associated with the Funding Factory’s program.  However, in order to receive payment, eWaste donated must be on the qualifying list.  The qualifying list can be found on the Funding Factory’s website, located at http://www.fundingfactory.com .

Though the Funding Factory does accept other types of eWaste, the Library is currently only accepting empty inkjet and toner printer cartridges and cell phones.  Items on the list, which is updated monthly, include inkjet brands such as Brother, Canon, Epson, HP and Lexmark.  Toner cartridge brands on the same list include these same brands plus Dell, Konica, Panasonic, Samsung and Xerox.  Cell phone brands accepted include Apple, HTC, Motorola, Nokia, Rim, Samsung and Sony.  If you plan to donate your old iPhone, please make sure the Find My iPhone feature is disabled.  All cell phones must power up and not show any visual damage.

If you are a for-profit business, we would like to partner with you!  We need your toner printer cartridges!  To participate in this program, all you need do is go to http://www.fundingfactory.com and register your business.  Make sure you enter our organization ID #41850.  It’s absolutely free and that simple.  The Funding Factory provides free UPS labels and shipping materials to make the pack-and-ship process easy.  If you are worried about the risk associated with handling printer cartridges, they are not considered toxic and do not pose a threat.  The ink in them is no more harmful than the ink in a ballpoint pen.

For each business that the library recruits, we earn cash from the donated eWaste.  All you need do is collect your cartridges and cell phones, then pack and ship them with the free, prepaid UPS labels and shipping materials provided.  The cash earned from the donated cartridges will be automatically deposited into our account.  For more information please contact me at   dbumbelow@cclva.org   or 825-8691.

Since 1997, the Funding Factor has helped schools, charities, churches, community groups and clubs in the United States earn more than $35 million in cash and rewards.  Program participants have kept 31 million pounds of cartridges and small electronics out of landfills.  A program of Clover Technologies Group, it is the world’s largest recycler and remanufacturer of consumable imaging supplies.
