Czech printer market down 5.2% in 2004

The Czech printer market contracted 5.2% in shipments to just over 300,000 units in 2004, IDC says. Value rose a marginal 1% as the shift to more expensive laser and color printers continued. Nevertheless, a surge in the sale of multifunctional peripherals (MFPs) has cannibalized shipments of single-function printers. Inkjet printers will bear the brunt of the shift to MFPs, but are not going to vanish from the market any time soon. Although inkjet shipments fell by 14.3% in the Czech Republic in 2004, they still constituted more than 64% of market volume. By contrast, monochrome laser shipments jumped by 16.6% last year and color laser shipments by almost 80% due to dramatic price reductions.
