European Tonernews Readers Reply To Enquiery About Etira
Last week we posted an article questioning why Etira (the European Toner and Inkjet Remanufacturers Association) Wanted more raids at future trade show in Europe, here are some of the replies we got, overall the reply where more in favor of Etira from EU readers, we did hear from a couple Asian manufacturers that like our questioning of Etira stand in the EU community but they really wanted to stay  anonymous, here are a few Examples of the replies we got below , we did keep these replies anonymous for obvious reason.

    1)

As a member of ETIRA, let me express my opinion.

If a wholesaler feels difficult to sell OEM cartridges in the EU, than
first of all, he must reconsider its business modell and/or its business
partners. OEMs do not inhibit the sales of OEM cartridges, and neither
    ETIRA's activity does.

That statement in your article indicates a total misuderstanding of the
background of the IP lawsuits. If there is a drop in OEM sales, there
must be another reason, like worse economy or low priced compatibles or
a weak business modell of the wholesaler or just a better competitor. Or
just a lower demand for printer cartidges in the last period.

Lots of companies do suffer from decreasing sales figures, but thats not
    due to OEM's lawsuits.

As to reman sales in the EU:

Asian 100% clone toners do make a problem for both OEM and reman sales.
Problem for the reman sales, as prices are lower and problem for the OEM
sales too, as there is a better availability of aftermarket cartidges,
since clone makers never suffer from lack of empties. Before the clones,
OEM's could make all the businesses where there were not enough empties
available in the market to reman. Now, unlimited number of clones can be
produced without a singe oem empty. (okay, one piece needed to make the
copy work). Thats the real problem, thats why sales are not good enough.

Canon has its gear patent, he is trying to use against everyone, but
thats not the only patent in the world, just one of the thousands of
    patents for toner cartridges.

Most the patents infringed are design patents referring to the design of
the cartridge core itself. These are infringed by the 100% new copy
clones but not by reman or oem cartridges.
ETIRA and all true reman companies are fighting against these infringing
clones, like oems do, and one field of this battle is the IP lawsuit.

I do believe, that companies just flooding infriging clones into EU
without respecting the IP rights, and the environmental aspects and the
equal competition rights, are not our fair, equal and correct
competitors therefore all actions againts them (including OEM lawsuits)
    are warmly welcome.

Fewer infringing clones would not only increase the oem sales but also
    the reman sales.

I wonder why it can be a problem for a wholesaler who only sells OEM and
truly remanufactured cartridges and not patent infrigning clones…
    Yours sincelery

    2).
As far as I was well informed these raids took place on booths from companies who displayed cloned cartridges, not remanufactured. Although I do not know Mr Van Dijk very well I briefly talked to him at the Paper World show and I conclude that he has good intentions for the European remanufacturers. I believe it is only a good thing if he promotes the removal of IP infringing products, i.e. clones, but I am sure we are already on the same page regarding that.
    Kind regards,

    3).
Sir,As being a member of ETRIA from the start.
So reading your comment it’s not the remanufactures that are complaining.
It’s the wholesalers who are bitching. They are the ones who get  New built cartridges from China, This does three things…
1/ It is killing the remanufacturing in Europe.
2/ It is reducing the number of empties that are available for reman.
3/ the cartridges if it be toner or inkjet are of such poor quality that in the long run the end user will never get remans  for we have all been painted with the same brush.

So F!#$%$#@! The wholesalers who are killing us for buying china new build or new build period. Unlike you guys in the USA we have no import restrictions on imported remanufactured cartridges or compatible cartridges.
