A variety of factors influence how many ink cartridges consumers use annually. The cost of cartridges (see chart), Internet access, and ownership of a digital camera, scanner, or other imaging peripheral all affect the number of cartridges consumed. This report explores trends in printing frequency, cartridge and paper consumption, and page density. Vendors who are armed with an understanding of the nonlinear nature of cartridge consumption and the different variables that affect it will be better equipped not only to respond to changes in the market, but also to effect change.
