First conviction in HP spy case
Bryan Wagner pleads guilty to two felony counts.
Federal prosecutors got their first conviction in the HP spy case. During an internal leak investigation, the HP Board of Directors used fraudulent tactics to obtain phone records of reporters, HP employees, and family members.The HP spy case has had its share of casualties. The case led to the early departure of former HP Chairman of the Board Patricia Dunn. Dunn announced her departure in September of last year, though she had hoped to step down this month as originally planned. With her departure, Mark Hurd took on the position of Chairman in addition to his titles of CEO and President of HP.Another casualty and the first conviction in the case is Brian C. Wagner. Wagner pleaded guilty to two felony counts linked to his use of social security numbers and other confidential information to get the personal phone records of those targeted as a part of an HP leak investigation. Wagner was engaged by Security Outsourcing Solutions (SOS), the security consulting company hired by HP to conduct the leak investigation.
