Six Orange County teachers have been given $1,000 in classroom supplies by OfficeMax. The annual giveaway recognizes the fact that most teachers spend 1,000 out of their pockets on classroom supplies each year.
The company has selected 1,000 teachers nationwide — mostly at schools facing high levels of poverty — to support teachers. The teachers are chosen through nominations from principals based on their passiion for teaching, innovation in the classroom, dedication to their profession and the success of their students.
The Orange teachers — Dawn Garrett of Rock Lake Elementary School, Patti Schmidt of Discovery Middle School, Shavonda Stephens at Carver Middle School, Jamie del Valle of Rosemont Elementary School, Amy Maretti of UCP Charter School and Susan Silverman of Killarney Elementary School — were surprised in their classrooms earlier this week.
The box for each teacher included paper, pencils, calculators, notebooks, a swivel desk chair and a Kindle Fire.
