    HP Claims Mopria Printing First
        By  Stephen Withers

HP's new (to Australia, at least) Color LaserJet Pro MFP M476 is the world’s first Mopria-certified printer for embedded print for Android-based devices, company officials claim.

    HP claims Mopria printing first

Mopria is an industry alliance founded by Canon, HP, Samsung and Xerox, with the goal of providing simple wireless printing from smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. The alliance operates a certification program allowing vendors to prove their compliance.

Since HP first announced the M476 earlier this year, other models from HP and Lexmark have been certified.

In addition to Mopria, the HP Color LaserJet MFP M476 supports NFC touch-to-print and wireless direct. It also includes LDAP support for simplified access control for scan, fax or copy functions and corporate email directory lookup.

The Color LaserJet Pro MFP M476 Series is available immediately with a starting price of $720.

Mopria compatibility is also a feature of the forthcoming Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One printer that will go on sale next month priced from $399.

Company officials claim the 8620 produces high-quality colour output at up to 50% lower cost per page than comparable colour laser printers.

"The expectation of today's business customer is to print securely from any location or device," said HP South Pacific printing category lead, Ben Vivoda.

"HP is committed to delivering simple, secured mobile print solutions that can help customers solve the mobility challenge of working while in the office or on the go."
