HP denies state support from France
    September 2005 – Palo
Alto (CA): Hewlett-Packard  has denied French claims that it was
provided with state subsidies worth an €1.2 million ($1.46 million) to
    create jobs.
Following HP’s announced plans to slash 1,240 jobs in France, French
Prime Minister Dominque de Villepin has led demands for HP to repay any
subsidies it received for setting up in the country.
Patrick Starck, HP France president, said the company had not received
any money and that it had paid over €700 million in taxes in the last
    decade.
“I can only repeat: HP has never received any subsidies for creating jobs,” he reiterated.
