fire that damaged a house on Avenida Suavidad in Rancho Bernardo Monday
was started by a malfunctioning Hewlett-Packard printer, authorities
said.The blaze, which started in a home office, was reported about 12:30
p.m.Damage was estimated at $400,000 to the house and $200,000 to the
contents, said Maurice Luque, spokesman for the San Diego Fire-Rescue
Department.Luque said Tuesday that fire officials were checking with the
Consumer Product Safety Commission to see if any problems have been
reported with the specific printer model.A firefighter suffered
first-degree ear burns due to the heat, but was treated and remained on
duty, Luque said
