HP SUES FORMER EXECUTIVE FOR STEALING DOCUMENTS
It’s deja vu as Oralce hires shamed former employee
HP has sued one of its former executives for allegedly stealing documents that could then be shared with the computer firm’s competitors.Adrian Jones, who used to work as HP’s head of enterprise sales for Asia, left the company to join rival Oracle. Some people steal office supplies, but HP alleges that Jones took a USB storage device that contained proprietary information about HP products and valuable information about HP customers.
HP has called on the courts to order Jones to hand over the sensitive data, but the company also wants damages, according to Reuters, as rivals coming into possession of its trade secrets could easily jeopardise its products’ market shares and financial results.
Jones was due to get sacked by the company after HP discovered he was involved in a relationship with a subordinate and had made a number of false expenses claims. However, Jones resigned from the company before it had a chance to sack him.
Relations between HP and Oracle have been extremely sour over the past year after HP’s former CEO, Mark Hurd was hired by Oracle. Hurd was sacked under a cloud of a sexual harassment lawsuit that was settled and false expenses claims, making this latest affair with Jones seem like a bit of deja vu. Both companies are now involved in a bitter legal dispute over Oracle’s hiring of Hurd.
The fact that Oracle is taking on a couple of HP’s problematic employees makes us wonder what its long-term plan is. If these individuals caused so many problems at HP we wonder why Oracle is putting its faith in them. It’s possible that this is simply to spite its rival, which seems to be working to good effect so far.
