Image Microsystems Wins 2011 Austin Business Award for Innovative Practices
AUSTIN, TX, Sep 02011– Image Microsystems — a leading provider of technology restoration, reverse logistics, e-waste recycling, and recycled products manufacturing — today announced they have been awarded the Medium Business Innovative Practices Award by the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. The prestigious award has been presented the past 11 years as part of the Greater Austin Business Awards. This year, the business community submitted 385 nominations for the Business Awards — the highest number of submissions ever.

One result of that effort is patent pending MicroStrate(TM) sign substrate. It is a versatile material made completely of recycled e-waste plastic. Image Microsystems’ proprietary manufacturing process combines "dirty" plastic found in spent printer cartridges and computer or printer housings and converts it into resilient, cost-effective, earth-friendly products such as traffic signs and markers. "Dirty" plastic is considered valueless in the recycling supply chain and as a result frequently ends up in landfills or incinerated. Now, purchasers of signage and markers made from MicroStrate(TM) material can save money on a product as tough — but not as theft-prone as aluminum — while simultaneously feeling good about contributing to carbon footprint and e-waste reduction.
For example, a leading computer OEM partners with Image Microsystems for asset recovery and recycling of their returned products including spent printer cartridges. Those materials that can be refurbished are remarketed. The material that cannot be reused is recycled — with the recycled material converted into MicroStrate(TM) signage installed on the OEM’s campuses.
Currently, most e-waste ends up in China or other developing countries where it is a large and growing problem. As the problem grows, more and more "fake" recyclers enter the picture. Ethical companies such as Image Microsystems have searched for efficient methods of recycling and uses for e-waste. MicroStrate(TM) signage is a result of those efforts. The proprietary technology developed by Image Microsystems allows dirty e-waste plastic to be turned into a useable material for traffic signage and road markers.
