INDIAN GOVERMENT SAYS HP OWES $323M
IN CUSTOMS FEES
The Indian
government says computer and printer maker Hewlett-Packard Co. owes some
$323 million in customs fees.India’s Directorate of Revenue
Intelligence said Palo Alto-based HP imported goods using lower price
estimates to avoid 14.5 billion rupees in customs charges.HP said in
news reports that it plans to fight the charges.Hewlett-Packard is
already being investigated for alleged bribery in Moscow: authorities in
both Russia and Germany are looking into the case, which has also been
picked up by the Securities and Exchange Commission in the United
States.
