Telecom Italia’s Olivetti to boost sales by focusing on inkjet printers
MILAN – Telecom Italia SpA’s information and communication equipment unit Olivetti said that it plans to boost sales by 38 pct over a three-year period thanks to the launch of new inkjet products.In 2005-2007, Olivetti intends to launch a new line of inkjet products for private consumers, as well as develop its professional equipment range through new alliances and the integration of new technology.
Sales are expected to rise 38 pct in 2007 from 601 mln eur in 2004, thanks to a 131 pct rise in the sale of inkjet products, it added.
EBIT margin is forecast to rise to more than 8 pct of sales in 2007 from about 3 in 2004, it said.
The group will invest 200 mln eur in Europe in 2005-2007, of which 75 pct will be spent on its inkjet business.
Half of the investment programme will be concentrated on research and development, it added.
In a press conference, CEO Giovanni Ferrario said that Olivetti will launch a range of new products in September, starting in Europe then entering the South and North American markets.
The group also has contacts for Far Eastern markets, he said, adding however that Europe is the group’s ‘first priority.’
Olivetti has a distribution deal with Jetronics to supply printers in the banking sector across Europe, he said.
The group also gained leadership in the market for printers in the Chinese banking sector, he said.
Olivetti claims to have a 70 pct worldwide market share in printers for the banking sector.
Ferrario added that the group has sold 25,000 printers in Venezuela for use in political voting and hopes to enter this sector in Italy.
Olivetti will also provide equipment in Telecom Italia Mobile shops to print out photographs from mobile phones fitted with cameras, he said.
