Law Firm Employee Barred Over £19,000 Toner Deception

A law firm administrator who used £18,646 of his employer’s money to pay for printer toner for his own use has been barred from working in the sector.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority said in an employee-related decision published yesterday that Raven Subramoney of no fixed abode had admitted deceiving his employer, full-service firm Browne Jacobson LLP in Nottingham by using his employer’s funds to pay for printer toners to the amount of £18,646.08 for his personal use and making up a false audit trail to disguise what he had done.

Subramoney was made subject to an order pursuant to section 43(2) of the Solicitors Act 1974 (as amended), was given a written rebuke and ordered to pay costs of £600.

The order sets six conditions on Subramoney’s employment in the sector, including that no solicitor shall employ or remunerate Subramoney in connection with his/her practice as a solicitor and that no recognised body shall employ or remunerate him.

The order is subject to a statutory right of review to the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal.
