LONG BEACH, Calif., Jan., 2013– Printer ink and toner industry leader, LD Products, has just closed the door on another year of growth, milestones, and investment. 2012 ended with increased sales growth as the Long Beach-based company serviced its 6 millionth order and prepared for an even higher volume of orders in the future.

As business continued during 2012, the premier online source for printer products foresaw and prepared for even higher volume in the years to come. By substantially increasing investment in key areas, LD Products has leveraged its present successes to make ready for future opportunities. In reference to the areas of infrastructure and business systems, new marketplaces, product diversity, and personnel, CEO Aaron Leon said, “We have never invested in our company like we did this year.”

In 2012, LD Products moved into a brand-new 110,000 square foot, LEED Platinum-rated facility in Long Beach, California. The move, from a smaller headquarters just a few miles away, was one of the first and most expensive of the large-scale investments that the company would make during the year in which it turned 13 years old. Inside of the new building, which is occupied primarily by warehouse space, a new state-of-the-art automated warehouse system that was designed by McCombs-Wall engineering was installed to allow the laser toner and printer ink vendor to ship thousands more packages with mechanical efficiency. The addition of this new, GE Capital-financed marriage between human labor and industrial automation will cut the cost of sorting, packing, and shipping packages in half while increasing the speed as well.

The warehouse that fulfills orders was not the only area of the business that was upgraded. The company also transitioned into new systems for accounting as well as enterprise resource planning (ERP) in 2012. For managing the effectiveness of the customer service call center, a much more modern system was installed to integrate and run all communications through a central computer program.

At the same time, employees of LD’s ecommerce team spent time and resources adding new online marketplaces to the list of those that the company successfully serves. By adding new venues for commerce and through advertising to new groups of consumers, the company has created new opportunities for growth that have been untapped in their history.

A third rung of the 2012 investment profile has been in the area of product diversity. Having been known historically as a vendor of printer ink and toner, 2012 was LD Products’ first move outside of the realm of print consumables with the new Pantum printer. In addition to the new line of printers, there are also other non-cartridge office supplies on the way from LD Products. “As with anything that we offer, we’re looking to provide a great value on a quality product to our customers and we’re excited to be able to do that on a new front,” said Frank Farina , VP of Business Development.

In addition to technological upgrades to business systems and preparing for new products, the company also invested in personnel. In the early part of the year, LD Products increased the number of hours during which its customer service center would operate. With that change, customers can now call or email 7 days a week from 5:00 AM to 7:00 PM PST and receive help with troubleshooting or to order products to stock their printer. Ink and toner retailer, LD Products, also added new personnel in marketing, sales, operations, and administration in 2012.
