LEXMARK & CANADA’s EARTH RANGERS GO
GREEN TOGETHER
RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO–
Earth Rangers, Canada’s leading environmental education organization for
children, has teamed up with Lexmark Canada, a global leader in
printing and output solutions.”Besides their ability to meet our needs
technologically, Lexmark’s unique approach to printing – in fact, their
radical approach as a printing company – blends very well with our
mission of reducing our carbon footprint, energy and paper consumption,”
says Earth Ranger’s Senior Manager of Development, John Pepelnak.”When
it comes to printing, if you’re serious about protecting the
environment, you must address the amount you print,” says Lexmark Canada
President Tim Emens. “That is one of the key reasons Lexmark developed
the ‘Print Less, Save More’ approach. Energy use, product recycling, and
materials used in production are all important environmental concerns,
however, 80 per cent of the carbon footprint of any printing device is
directly related to the paper it consumes.”(1)The project with Lexmark
has reduced the amount of printing devices utilized at Earth Ranger’s
headquarters in Woodbridge by 70 per cent. Its old printers are being
responsibly recycled. The organization has also noticed a considerable
reduction in its paper consumption.”In the initial phases of the
project, we were able to save 34 per cent of our paper usage by going to
print release capabilities, a Lexmark feature that uses individual key
cards to release printing jobs,” says Earth Rangers IT Systems Manager
Robert Di Stefano. “Our staff is already ‘green focused’ but the Eco
Features and the Print Release capabilities are what have created the
biggest impact in reducing our paper consumptions.”The Print
Less, Save More strategy has also been applied to Lexmark’s large
enterprise customers, with which the company works to optimize the
printing hardware utilized as well as reduce unnecessary and wasteful
printing. By deploying innovative workflow solutions, Lexmark can
significantly reduce the need for paper, thereby reducing the total
number of pages printed. Depending on the level of engagement, this
reduction can generate savings of between 20 and 40 per cent.About
