Local Business Woman Arrested on Fraud Charges

BROOKSVILLE – A local businesswoman was arrested Aug. 27 on organized fraud charges of $50,000 or more.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, Angela Arcona owns Southwest Equipment for Hernando County, Inc., a company that brokers the sales of large commercial printers that usually cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Arcona is believed to have swindled $376,200 from victims between November 2011 and March 2013, giving them false invoices for incomplete purchases, and taking their money.

Printer companies listed on the invoices were contacted by sheriff's detectives said they were not involved in the transactions.

Arcona denied sending the victims fake invoices, but told detectives she did send the victims invoices listing her company as the sales broker without first contacting the printer companies to check price and availability.

Arcona, 56, posted $10,000 bond later on the day she was arrested.

Court records show Arcona had her adjudication withheld on a grand theft charge in 2010, and served one month of probation.

Any other victims are asked to contact Det. Tony Aguiar at (352) 797-3723 or at taguiar@hernandosheriff.org.
