    Brother Malaysia on track for 20pc of printer market
    BROTHER
    International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, which holds about 15 per cent share
    of the local printer market, is on track to achieve 20 per cent market
    share by March next year.The company is aiming to get 30 per cent share
    of the printer market within three years, said Brother Malaysia’s
    director Yoshiaki Otsuka.“Our strength is that we have our own engine
    or printer technology. We also have research and development
    technology,” Otsuka said in a recent interview.

    Among the
    products produced by Brother is laser printers, multi-function centres
    (MFC), fax machines, P-touch electronic labellers, typewriters and
    sewing machines.
    Brother, which was founded in 1934 in Japan, has
    expanded worldwide, including the United States, Europe, Singapore,
    Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Cambodia and
    Indonesia.

    In Malaysia, the company is offering fully integrated
    sales, marketing and services at its sales and marketing office which
    was set up in 2001.It also opened a manufacturing plant in Johor in
    1989, with a present workforce of more than 2,500. The Johor plant is
    producing fax machines and typewriters.

    Brother also has
    manufacturing plants in countries like China, Vietnam, the United
    States, the United Kingdom and Slovakia.Otsuka said Brother Malaysia
    planned to expand its retail market presence in the country.

    Its
    products are available at well-known outlets like Courts Mammoth and
    Harvey Norman.“Traditionally, people will go to IT (information
    technology) shops to buy our products like printers. So, we are trying
    to increase our presence in the IT shops in order to make sure people
    can get our products easily,” he said.The company also planned to
    expand its number of service centres across the country, Otsuka said,
    adding that it now has more than 100 centres.
