Bid to be best photocopier repairman,Championships held in China on October 26
FORGET Cadel Evans, forget Sam Stosur and forget that guy who won the Nobel Prize for discovering what the universe was made of – Australia has a new hero. His name – for the few people who haven’t already heard of him – is Paul O’Brien and this month he is flying to Shanghai in a bid to capture the title of the world’s greatest photocopier repairman. Or at least the best one who works for Canon.O’Brien is a paper jam’s worst enemy. He can fix a copier in seconds flat and can even do that weird double-sided photocopying and sorting thing. And yes, it is true: O’Brien is the NSW representative at Canon’s Asia Pacific Cup, where 22 photocopier technicians will compete in China for the industry’s top honour on October 26.

The four technicians from Canon Oceania were selected following a five round competition based on both theory and practical tests on Canon business imaging technology. They beat more than one hundred of their local colleagues to proceed to the next round. O’Brien said some pre-match nerves were getting to him but he was in good shape."I’m a little bit nervous but otherwise good," he said.O’Brien says photocopier technician was "a very glamorous occupation" but many couldn’t handle the pressure.
