Most recently, Static Control made news when tornadoes destroyed two of the company’s buildings and heavily damaged a third.

Swartz is survived by his wife, Barbara, his daughter Karen, son Michael and wife Audra, son William and wife Mary and nine grandchildren.

He was born in Winston-Salem on Dec. 13, 1935, and grew up on Salisbury before moving to Sanford. In addition to Static Contorol, he also ran several other companies in Sanford, including Santronics Inc. and what is now the 3M facility in Sanford, according to his obituary.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, Cystic Fibrous Foundation or Hospice of Lee County.
