New chip could revolutionise printer cartridge use
    February,
2007 An inkjet printer capable of printing up to 1,000 pages per minute
is being developed by Israeli researchers.Moshe Einat, a lecturer at
the College of Judea and Samaria, is working towards emitting ink in a
printer on the same scale that light is emitted in an LCD screen,
something that could potentially revolutionise the use of Epson printer
cartridges and Canon printer cartridges, among others.Mr Einat’s
prototype print head model, though measuring only 12 square
centimetres, contains 57,600 individual ink nozzles, designed for
drop-on-demand delivery. He said: “We found a way to make a huge print
head. If the print head is the size of the media, there is no scanning
anymore.”The potential implications of this innovation include the
possibility of producing books on demand and printing personalised
newspapers aimed at the individual, a process that could use HP printer
cartridges or Lexmark printer cartridges. With business increasingly
looking for more efficient and quicker printing solutions, printer
cartridges will have to adapt to fit the new technology.
