Deal with Dell accounted for 15% of Lexmark’s 2005 revenue
Dell accounted for 15 percent of Lexmark International’s revenue in 2005, up from 10.7 percent the previous year.
The computer maker buys printers manufactured by Lexmark that are then sold under the Dell name.
The percentage was included in Lexmark’s 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission late yesterday.
Revenue in 2005 from Dell was $782 million, or 15 percent of Lexmark’s $5.22 billion annual revenue.
Dell accounted for $570 million, or 10.7 percent, of the company’s 2004 revenue.
No single customer accounted for 10 percent of total revenue in 2003.
Lexmark has been criticized by analysts who said the company’s relationship with Dell, which has rapidly gained printer market share, dilutes its own brand name.
Lexmark executive vice president Paul Rooke answered questions about the Dell relationship earlier this week at a Morgan Stanley conference.
“We look to leverage OEM (original-equipment manufacturer) alliances to really extend Lexmark’s reach — Lexmark’s technology reach — into customers we wouldn’t otherwise be connected to,” said Rooke, who heads Lexmark’s Printing Solutions and Services Division.
Rooke said any OEM relationship must complement the Lexmark brand and make financial sense.
“I’d tell you our first focus is the Lexmark brand, first and foremost, and that’s where our energies are focused around,” Rooke said.
