Colorado Judge Rules in Favor of Static Control Components

SANFORD, N.C. — A Colorado judge recently issued a judgment in favor of Static Control Components in a lawsuit brought by Darkprint Imaging of Broomfield, Colo., against Static Control for patent infringement.

The Original suit, brought in October 1998 by Darkprint, alleged that Static Control Components had infringed Darkprint’s patent for a magnetic developer roller. The judge ruled that the Darkprint patent was invalid, and therefore inapplicable to Static Control Components’ developer rollers. The court awarded Static Control Components its costs.

“We are extremely pleased with the judge’s ruling,” said Ed Swartz, CEO of Static Control Components. “Whenever we believe our company is wrongfully accused we will defend ourselves and utilize whatever resources necessary to vindicate our position.”

Static Control Components employs 1,200 people in three divisions. The Imaging Supplies Division (ISD) manufactures components that are sold to remanufacturers of laser printer toner cartridges. ISD and Static Control’s other two divisions, Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and Santronics, combine for revenues in excess of $250 million.
