OfficeMax tapping into US small-business market
September 2007 — Naperville (IL): OfficeMax is expanding its line of business design services through OfficeMax ImPress print and document services.
The company is hoping to tap in to the 26 million self-employed or under ten-person firms in the US. According to the company, the expanded service will bridge the gap between do-it-yourself design and design agencies. As part of the expansion the ImPress line now offers more than 1,000 new customisable business card and stationery designs that “enable customers to create a look of their own”.Customers, with the help of an OfficeMax ImPress staff member, have the option to design a look using design templates, upload artwork into an existing design, or create a new identity from scratch. Customers are also able to see artwork in real-time due to the addition of on-site design kiosks. This technology also enables customers to apply designs instantly across coordinating stationery, brochures, labels, folders and more.Ryan Vero, EVP and chief merchandising officer, said: “Expanding OfficeMax ImPress’s design services comes at a critical time. We see a new service niche emerging because small business owners want more control over designs, but they fall short on skills and resources. Plus, they don’t have time to keep going back and forth on design concepts.Gone are the days where creativity is limited to picking a template out of a catalogue and hoping the design turns out as good as the picture. Now customers can see their creation in real time.”
