Panasonic India recently introduced genuine refill toners for its entire range of multifunction printers. According to the firm, the refill toners are an effective solution that when combined with a heavy duty legal platen printer provide a per-copy cost competitive with an A3-sized copier. The newly launched genuine refill toner, priced between Rs. 480 to Rs. 1,395, is available for the MB2235 (28 PPM) and MB2085 (26 PPM) and will not void the printer’s warranty. Panasonic is targeting the small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) segment and is focusing on office automation channels to enable customers to refill depleted toner cartridges.

    Our View

Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) face ongoing pressures in the supplies aftermarket, as third-party remanufactured and refilled ink and toner cartridges offer users a lower-cost alternative to genuine supplies. However, depending on the supplier, non-geniune cartridges may not deliver the quality and reliability that users expect. With the availability of genuine Panasonic refill toner cartridges, the firm is offering users the combination of low price and quality, which will be difficult for third-party suppliers to match. Capturing a higher percentage of the supplies aftermarket remains a top priority for printing and imaging vendors as the overall market declines and page volumes continue to be threatened by the increased use of digital devices and adoption of digital workflows.
