POLICE CHASE & CRASH OVER 10 PACKS OF CARTRIDGES
Two men arrested after chase to Loganville
Two
shoplifters who led police on a high-speed chase Thursday afternoon
crashed into a concrete wall and fled into woods on foot, but were
captured, police said.Shawn Cornell Stewart, 38, of Hyattsville, Md.,
and Robert Delano Ingram, 38, of Washington, D.C., were in York County
Prison Friday morning on $50,000 bail each.York Area Regional Police
responded to the Rite Aid at 910 W. Broadway in York Township about
12:15 p.m. after two men stole all of the displayed printer cartridges
from the store, police said.York County Control advised the men fled the
parking lot toward Dallastown in a silver four-door car with Virginia
license plates.A police officer spotted the car — a Toyota Corolla —
turning from South Queen Street to Leader Heights Road. He saw two
males, one wearing a black jacket with yellow stripes, in the car,
according to charging documents. The chase: A York Area Regional
officer in an unmarked car began to follow the Toyota, waiting for
assistance. While waiting at a red light to turn onto Interstate 83
south, the suspects heard a siren from a police car coming to assist and
proceeded to run over the concrete median, through the red light and
turn onto the ramp, according to charging documents. Both the unmarked
car and a police car with its lights and siren activated followed the
Toyota. The suspects began passing cars at high speed on the shoulder in
extremely heavy rain, police said.State police were waiting at the
Loganville exit. As the fleeing vehicle approached the exit, they saw
police and abruptly cut across both lanes and exited the interstate. The
suspects ran through a red light at the intersection of Reynolds Mill
Road and Susquehanna Trail, according to charging documents. The
crash: They continued to drive at high speeds on wet roads across
Reynolds Mill Road until they lost control in the 9000 block, which is
in Springfield Township. The Toyota skidded through a front yard and
crashed into a concrete wall around a home, police said. Both men ran
from the car into nearby woods as officers pursued, police said.Police
said they saw more than 10 packages of HP printer cartridges fall when
one of the men, later identified as Ingram, fell to the ground. He was
arrested as other officers continued to chase the second suspect.Stewart,
the second suspect, was apprehended about 100 yards from Ingram.Police
who checked the crashed vehicle found another bag full of HP printer
cartridges, according to charging documents. Both men are charged with
six counts of retail theft — including felony counts of the charge —
and two counts of receiving stolen property. Ingram is also charged with
two counts of fleeing police and four traffic violations. -
