    • ECi Acquires Digital Gateway

      ECi announced that it has acquired Digital Gateway, Inc. in order to better serve the needs of dealers in the office equipment/managed print services industry. Digital Gateway will become part of ECi’s Office Equipment Division, which will include the e-automate, OMD and La Crosse dealer management software products. Jim Phillips, CEO of Digital Gateway, will assume leadership of ECi’s Office Equipment Division, working closely with Laryssa Alexander, president of OMD and La Crosse. Their mission is to ensure that all dealers reach maximum success regardless of which solutions they are using.

    • Kyocera Releases Drum Capable of Printing More Than 1M Pages

      Kyocera Corporation announced the availability of its Kyocera Mega Surface Series amorphous silicon (a-Si) photoreceptor drum, which offers record durability as a core component in electrophotographic printing equipment, including laser printers and MFPs. Third-party testing of Kyocera’s A3-size imaging equipment has demonstrated 2.5-million-page durability with no drum replacement.

    • Xerox Reman Cartridges for HP Released in S. Africa

      An authorized Xerox distributor, Bytes Document Solutions, will be releasing Xerox Replacement Cartridges (XRC) for HP printers available to 26 South African countries, IT Web reported. Bytes Document Solutions will use virgin cartridges for the XRC program, and Xerox’s Total Performance Warranty will cover all the remanufactured cartridges. The cartridges are said to be equivalent or better compared to OEM consumables, but at significantly reduced prices.

    • More Organizations Considering MPS

      With demand for workplace printing expected to grow or stay at current levels in the foreseeable future, more organizations are taking a closer look at managed print services, according to a new study by CompTIA. In the survey of 400 IT and business executives involved in print and document management for their organizations, firms gave high marks for printing functionality, but many would like to see improvements in the areas of maintenance and management to achieve greater up-time rates. Approximately 50 percent of large firms reported using the MPS model in some capacity, compared to 20 percent for small firms. Of those companies not currently using managed print services, 35 percent expect to definitely or probably consider adoption over the next 12 months.
