    Ricoh to close digital copier plant in Shizuoka Japan

    Ricoh Co. plans to close its main production base for multifunctional digital copiers in Gotemba, Shizuoka Prefecture, at the end of March 2013, it has been learned.

    The office equipment maker will gradually shift production of multifunctional copy machines and other products to other plants starting in June. The move is designed to streamline operations.

    In addition to copiers, the Gotemba plant manufactures products such as large printers for commercial use.Of the about 1,200 people working there, the company plans to relocate about 700 regular employees to other plants.The company has not yet decided how to use the plant after the closure.
