Static Control Files Suit Against Future Graphics
JAN 07,Static Control Components Inc. has filed suit against California-based Future Graphics, LLC.   The lawsuit filed, in Federal Court, alleges universal chips sold by Future Graphics for use on remanufactured cartridges infringed one of SCC’s patents.“We spend an enormous amount of money to stay on the cutting edge of technology,” said SCC CEO Ed Swartz.   “We have some of the best chip engineers in the world who work diligently to stay ahead of the latest technology; technology that we will vigorously defend.”The patent, US Patent No. 7,088,928 issued by the United States Patent & Trademark Office to SCC on August 8, 2006, was for a universal chip that can be commonly used in different printers.  “We have not authorized or licensed any of the chip technology to Future Graphics,” said SCC General Counsel William “Skip” London.   “We are seeking lost profits, reasonable royalties as well as injunctive relief against Future Graphics.”

Future Graphics Asserts SCC Suit Has No Merit
On January 3, 2007, Static Control Components, Inc. filed a suit against Future Graphics, LLC, alleging that universal chips sold by Future Graphics, LLC infringed one of SCC’s patents.Future Graphics vigorously asserts that there is no merit to this allegation. Future Graphics will aggressively defend itself against these claims and will continue to provide comprehensive solutions to the marketplace.“We have proven to the market that we provide industry leading products, support and solutions,” said Bryan Bonacum, VP sales, Future Graphics. “Our extraordinary growth will not be stifled by these types of actions by SCC. This is yet another tactic by our competitor to suppress fair competition and to sow dissent in the industry. We prefer to let our products and services determine our success in the marketplace.”“SCC has filed three lawsuits against FG in the last 12 months which demonstrates that SCC prefers to fight its battles in the courts rather than the marketplace,” said Luke Goldberg, Senior VP, Future Graphics. “One of the lawsuits is to prevent one of their former employees from working at Future Graphics after they laid him off. The infringement suit contradicts SCC’s self-anointed stance as protectors in the market against OEMs. This lawsuit only works in the favor of the OEMS. We strongly believe that our industry remains vital when its leaders do not engage in such divisive actions.”
