Samsung Starts its Own Recycling Program
Samsung has announced its own recycling program in Canada, aptly named the Samsung Take back and Recycling Program (STAR). It will be a free service that lets customers return empty Samsung-branded toner cartridges for laser and multi-function printers.STAR is supported by Canada Post, and will see returned cartridges safely reprocessed into their major usable component materials, like plastic and metals. These bulk, reprocessed materials will then be made available to the market for re-use in creating a range of other products.“With the STAR program, Samsung is taking responsibility for the possible environmental impact of our products,” said Ronald Hulse, Vice President Sales & Marketing, IT Division, Samsung Electronics Canada. “A founding principle of the STAR program is that it operates on a Zero Landfill policy: 100 per cent of the cartridge and related materials returned under this program are recycled and reused.“Samsung Electronics Canada, Inc. is committed to fulfilling its obligation as a corporate citizen in serving the environmental needs of Canada and the world, and we hope our customers will help us achieve those goals,” Hulse added. To return an empty Samsung toner cartridge, just visit http://www.samsung.com/ca/star to print out a pre-addressed, pre-paid Canada Post return shipping label, than return the box to any Canada Post post office or red label letter box.“By offering a free and simple recycling return program like STAR,” concluded Hulse, “we’re providing our customers with a convenient, conscientious way of ensuring their used products don’t harm the environment by occupying landfill space.“For more information about Samsung’s STAR Program, visit http://www.samsung.com/ca/star
