Samsung tells Dell, HP to get lost
DRAM prices so weak, manufacturers panic
    June 2007
PRICES OF DRAM continue to plummet and now, according to a report on
Digitimes, Samsung has told large PC multinationals they’re not getting
any more, full stop. The report, if true, demonstrates the depths to
which DRAM prices have sunk during this year, despite the false promise
proffered to the industry by Microsoft Vista. Presumably Samsung would
rather store the DRAM chips itself, rather than have the original
equipment manufacturers buy low and wait for a rebound in
prices.Digitimes claimed today that Samsung told HP and Dell they
couldn’t have more DRAM because the two multinationals are pushing the
Dramurai for even lower prices. Last week we reported that
manufacturers of memory were selling products at below cost price. The
same wire claims that Hynix and Nanya are perfectly happy to give more
DRAM modules to Dell and HP if Samsung is being snotty about it.
