20 men rob workers at S’pore factory
December
2006 ABOUT 100 workers at a Singapore-owned factory in Kota Tinggi were
robbed of their handphones, jewellery and cash in a pre-dawn ambush on
Monday.Twenty armed robbers entered Podoyo Plastics factory, which
makes printer ink cartridges, at 1.50am by cutting the perimeter fence
and disabling the alarm.They then split into several groups, reported
The New Straits Times.Five of them raided the guardhouse.The rest
herded the workers into the canteen, where they robbed them.Security
guard Mohd Razali Mohd Zan, 26, recalled: ‘A group of armed men
threatened to kill us if we refused to heed their instructions.’POLICE ALERTED
But
about 40 night-shift workers managed to hide and call the police.Three
of the robbers, aged between 30 and 36, were arrested as they tried to
escape.Two cars containing some of the workers’ valuables was
discovered. One of the cars was reported stolen in Kota Tinggi about
two months ago.It was reported that two workers were hospitalised while
several others received outpatient treatment.The CCTV recording of the
robbery was given to the police.
