SPAIN’s FAMOUS BARCELONA SOCCER TEAM TO CUT BACK ON SUPPLIES

Barcelona FC has cut back on office space supplies to tackle its £400 million debt.
The unusual move may help the team to save the cash it needs to spend on new players. About £35 million alone would be required to pay for current Arsenal player Cesc Fabregas to join the club.Small changes like reducing the use of printer ink and toners has helped the squad to squirrel away some much-needed capital already.President of Barcelona FC Sandro Rosell told Catalunya’s TV3: “By being austere, hard and losing friends we removed the catering events, our bodyguards, and we have even stopped making photocopies in colour at the club. Now we do black and white and save on toner”.

He added: “I am concerned about the club’s economic sustainability. We have to balance the books. We have sorted out the situation and what the economic area has achieved means we have €45m (£40 million) to spend on transfers this summer plus sales”.However, the club may still fall short if it wants to secure other top name players, such as Udinese play-maker Alexis Sanchez who is likely to command a fee of at least £38 million.Securing Fabregas and Sanchez will require £30 million more than the club currently has to spend. This could mean that present members of the squad may be sold to other teams to raise the cash required.
