RETAILER WANTS TO DIVERT 10-MILLION PRINTER CARTRIDGES FROM LANDFILLS
Staples Canada collected 2.5-million printer cartridges in their Two-Million Cartridge Challenge and announces new goal of 10-million cartridges by the end of April 2012

RICHMOND HILL, ON, April 2011- Staples Canada is challenging all Canadians to help divert 10-million ink/toner cartridges from landfills. The new challenge evolved after Canada’s largest office supply retailer collected 2.5-million printer cartridges during their 2010/2011 Two-Million Cartridge Challenge—Thanks again, Canada!The retailer is inviting customers to contribute five-million used cartridges over the next year. "Collecting 2.5-million is a record setter for us. We are looking to collect a total of five-million, combining all our challenge into a total of 10-million over four years," said Steve Matyas, president of Staples Canada.

It’s the first time in the company’s history that a goal like this has been set. The 10-Million Cartridge Challenge begins on Earth Day—April 22, 2011 and wraps up on Earth Day, 2012. Since September of 2008, Staples Canada has collected a total of five-million cartridges, which began with their One-Million Cartridge campaign. "This all started with our One-Million Cartridge Challenge, and Canadians have been very receptive. These challenges help to keep cartridges from filling our landfills," said Matyas.
