Staples explains dumping own-brand printer compatibles
MARCH
2007 — Framingham (MA): A Staples spokesman has told Lyra Research that
it has discontinued the sale of Hewlett-Packard (HP) compatible ink and
toner cartridges because of the speed at which HP continues to develop
its printing technology. The spokesman told the research firm: “HP
continues to rapidly advance its technology in printing systems and ink
and toner and this decision offers the best solution to customers and
allows Staples to focus its resources on the many other product
categories where we can innovate with Staples-brand products.”Staples
own brand compatible cartridges for HP and Epson printers have been
removed from the OP giant’s retail catalogues and HP compatibles have
been removed from stores.
