PUBLIC URGED TO DONATE USED PRINTER CARTRIDGES TO CHARITY

June 06 A local charity urged the public Monday to donate used laser
printing cartridges to support a fundraising campaign promoting the
welfare of the mentally challenged,The drive was launched by the
Syin-Lu Foundation in cooperation with CyberTek Corp., a company
specializing in recycling printer cartridges.Under the program, the
foundation will receive a recycling incentive of up to NT$400 from the
company for each cartridge collected, with the award varying according
to the brand and model of the products.
According to officials at
the Environmental Protection Administration, a total of 1.36 million
printer cartridges were consumed in Taiwan in 2003, but only 210,000,
or 15 percent, were recycled.The ratio was much lower than the 29
percent of cartridges recycled in the United States, 30 percent in
Europe and 21 percent in Asia or Australia, they said.the Syin-Lu
Foundation said companies and individuals intending to donate used
