Help the missions with used ink cartridges
BUSINESSES in Waterford have been offered free recycling of empty ink cartridges and mobile phones. Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSCs) have come up with a unique way to raise funds for their charitable work in developing countries. By arrangement with a specialised waste management company they can arrange to have empty ink cartridges collected from business premises throughout the county, and in return the missions will receive a donation for each cartridge collected. The size of donation is dependent on the type of cartridge but it varies from 50c to €2.
The system is very convenient for businesses and totally environmental friendly. Businesses are provided with a special collection bin, and when they have ten cartridges, they ring or email the waste management company who will make the collection anywhere in the region. Where the usage is small, freepost envelopes are provided for posting the empties to the waste management company. Mobile phones can also be deposited for collection, and the donation for these if they have a battery is €3 each.
Many businesses have a problem disposing of empty cartridges that are not acceptable for landfill. Fr. Michael O’Connell at the MSC Promotion Office at Western Road, Cork appealed to businesses in Waterford city and county to avail of this user-friendly service that will eliminate the hassle of disposing of such waste.
He points out that €30 will care for an AIDS orphan in South Africa for one month, whilst €25 will provide a school meal for a poor child in Venezuela.
Waterford businesses interested in the service can contact Matt Moran at 021-4545704 or email him at mscpromotion@ eircom.net and he will make the necessary arrangements with the waste management company that holds a waste collection permit.
