HP to sell ‘value’ cartridges for all inkjet models
HP is to extend its high-yield cartridges to the whole inkjet family under the new XL value range.
The
inkjet giant today told selected journalists at its ThInk in Business
event in Singapore that it will be reshuffling its consumable lines in
2007 to distinguish more clearly the gap between light and heavy
users.’What we want to give is a choice, not only of printer but also
of the type of supply you can get for it,’ said Eduardo Macias, HP’s
business development project manager. While HP already offers a
high-yield cartridge for many inkjet models, the rebranded ‘value’ line
– signified by an XL suffix – will be extended across the whole inkjet
family, in order to reduce confusion for consumers. The cartridges
offer higher yields at a significantly lower cost per page than a
standard cartridge, making them popular with users who print in large
volumes. The ‘standard’ consumables will remain, with lower purchase
cost and higher cost per page, suiting the less frequent user. As an
example, the standard 88 cartridge for the Officejet Pro will print 850
pages at a cost of €18.49 (€0.02 per page), compared to the 88XL’s
2,450 pages for €32.49 (€0.01 per page). The cartridges will initially
be available for the Officejet family of business printers, extending
across the inkjet range through early 2007.The news follows the recent
announcement of a new ISO standard for inkjet printer cartridges.
