Weyerhaeuser to permanently shut down mill
    December
2005 – Washington (WA): Weyerhaeuser has announced it will permanently
close a mill in Saskatchewan that employs 690 people and shut down a
    paper machine in Ontario.
In a statement chairman, president and
chief executive Steve Rogel said: “We recognise that this news and its
timing is hard on our people, but market conditions leave us no choice
as we make urgent changes to improve the competitiveness and lagging
financial performance of this business.” He added that Weyerhaeuser
    expects other changes to follow.
The company will also shut down one
of its paper machines at Dryden pulp and paper mill in Ontario on 1
April, affecting around 80 of the mill’s 795 employees
