Woman pleads guilty to embezzling from employer
A
Rockford woman pleaded guilty in federal court Friday to charges of
mail fraud resulting from a scheme to embezzle nearly $860,000 from
Motorola Inc. in Elgin.

R. Gilroy, 33, pleaded guilty to embezzling $859,369.17 between
December 2003 and December 2006.According to the plea agreement, Gilroy
admitted that while employed by Motorola from Dec. 1, 2003, to Dec. 1,
2006, she ordered inkjet cartridges that were not needed by Motorola,
had them shipped to Motorola and then either took them to her Rockford
residence or shipped them there.Gilroy admitted she then sold the
cartridges on eBay, shipped them to individuals throughout the United
States and pocked the proceeds. As a result, Motorola paid $513,952.19
for the cartridges, which she sold for her own profit.Gilroy also
admitted that she obtained more than $333,989.19 in reimbursements from
Motorola for purchases that never occurred by submitting to her
supervisors credit card statements and invoices that she created. After
the reimbursement requests were approved, Gilroy deposited the funds
into her personal bank account.In addition, Gilroy admitted using
$6,935.33 in Motorola’s funds to purchase computers and other computer
accessories for her personal use and admitted taking Bluetooth
accessories valued at $4,492.46 from Motorola without consent, then
selling the accessories on eBay.
