Computer Services, known as ACS, a Xerox company, announced the layoffs
in a filing on Friday with the state Labor Department.ACS spokesman Ken
Ericson said in an e-mail the layoffs are the result of a contract
ending.”While ACS continues to grow its operations, it is sometimes
necessary to scale back,” he wrote.According to the filing, the
employees and other remote workers within the state are expected to lose
their jobs on or around Nov. 1. Those affected support the Georgia
Health Partnership at the ACS Government Healthcare Solutions facility
at 365 Northridge Drive in Atlanta.
The laid-off employees
performed customer service and claims adjudication work and will receive
outplacement services, Ericson said. About 40 people will
remain.According to the ACS website, the Atlanta office serves both
state and county agencies and commercial clients. It provides services
dealing with child support payments, airport parking operations,
automatic fare collection systems, claims processing, human resources
management, accounting services, lease administration, data entry and
mailroom services. In the United States, the company also has operations
in Texas, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Utah. The company is not scaling
