Xerox cuts ribbon on $59M toner plant

September 2007 — Xerox Corp. will cut the ribbon this
afternoon on the latest addition to its sprawling Webster campus — a
$59 million emulsion aggregation toner plant.

    The five-story, 100,000-square-foot plant employs 40.

The Rochester area’s fourth-largest employer is the world’s
largest maker of toner. Traditionally toner is made by mixing various
ingredients into pellets that then get ground up into the powdery dust
    used in photocopiers.

EA toner uses chemical processes to “grow”
toner from its component ingredients into individual toner particles.
According to Xerox, the chemical process to manufacture EA toner is
more energy efficient and the uniform particle sizes means printers use
40 to 50 percent less toner during printing.
