Xerox foundation invests $1.75 million in MCC
(December 2006) — The charitable arm of Xerox Corp. is giving $1.75 million to Monroe Community College to go toward scholarships, equipment, faculty enrichment and seed money for new programs.Xerox CEO Anne Mulcahy announced the Xerox Foundation donation Wednesday while accepting the MCC Foundation’s 2006 Salute to Excellence Award at Riverside Convention Center. The donation came as a surprise to MCC’s foundation, said Director Diane L. Shoger. The two foundations will talk further to see if Xerox Foundation has any preferences on how the money is used.”We are beside ourselves with admiration for a corporation that really values public education,” she said.”We are fortunate that MCC is a great community college that continues to transform itself,” Mulcahy said in her acceptance speech, according to MCC. “We consider this grant not a gift, not a donation, but an investment in our collective future.”The money will be paid out over five years, which is typical for major gifts, Shoger said.Xerox and MCC have ties that go back to the community college’s start. E. Kent Damon, a founding executive of Xerox, also was one of the founding trustees of MCC.
