Essendant is selling key private-label brands as the distributor faces mounting financial and legal pressure, raising questions about whether the asset sales are part of an effort to generate cash amid its dispute with TD SYNNEX. Essendant has sold its Boardwalk, GEN and Windsoft brands to ORS Nasco, while also issuing WARN notices announcing layoffs in several states. The moves come shortly after TD SYNNEX filed a lawsuit on September 17, 2026, alleging that Essendant stopped making payments required under a previous settlement agreement. According to the lawsuit, Essendant had agreed in October 2025 to make 52 weekly payments beginning November 7, 2025, but TD SYNNEX alleges those payments stopped around June 4, 2026. Distribution Strategy Group While there is no public evidence confirming that Essendant specifically sold the brands to pay TD SYNNEX, the timing has fueled speculation that the divestitures are part of a broader effort to raise liquidity and unwind portions of the business. Digital Commerce 360 reports that the combination of asset sales, layoffs and litigation has raised questions about Essendant’s future, with the company appearing to retreat further from its traditional distribution operations. digitalcommerce360.com Read the Digital Commerce 360 report
