U.S. States Allowed to Intervene in HP’s $14B Juniper Acquisition Case
A U.S. District Judge has ruled that a group of states, including Colorado, can intervene in the case regarding Hewlett-Packard Enterprise’s (HPE) $14 billion acquisition of Juniper Networks. The decision allows the states to weigh in on the merger, even though the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has proposed a settlement that would allow the deal to proceed.
The DOJ’s settlement suggests that the merger could move forward with certain concessions, but some states have raised concerns about potential harm to competition, such as higher prices or reduced consumer choice. The judge, Casey Pitts, did not decide whether he would investigate the circumstances under which the DOJ reached its settlement with HPE and Juniper.
The intervention by the states could complicate the approval process, as they now have the opportunity to challenge the merger’s impact on competition. The outcome of the case could set important precedents for future corporate mergers in the tech industry.
