Watch out, Ninestar and Hubey Donglong: the Trump administration’s proposes new 12.5% tariff tied to forced-labor enforcement.
Chinese printer consumables manufacturers could soon face another wave of trade pressure after reports that the U.S. plans to impose additional tariffs of 12.5% or more on many trading partners following a forced-labor probe. Trump is preparing to impose more tariffs tied to forced-labor enforcement, a move that could intensify scrutiny on companies already facing allegations tied to labor practices and supply-chain compliance. Hubei Dinglong and its subsidiaries, including Mito Color Imaging and Zhuhai Chaojun Technology, were cited in a China Labor Watch investigation alleging excessive overtime, unsafe working conditions, discrimination in hiring, and environmental violations at facilities in Zhuhai. Chinese manufacturers are already under growing scrutiny in Washington. Ninestar was added to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) Entity List in 2023, a move that effectively restricted imports of certain products into the United States over alleged links to forced labor in supply chains. Industry analysts say companies connected to past labor-rights allegations or compliance investigations could face heightened customs inspections, reputational risks, and additional tariffs as the U.S.-China trade conflict and supply-chain enforcement campaign continue to escalate.
