The Philippines Printer Industry is Booming

    by Aya Lowe

MANILA, Philippines – Bullish outlook on the Philippine economy boosted the sale of printing devices, market research firm IDC said.

The 34.5% sales growth in the first quarter of 2013 made the Philippines the fastest growing market in Asia, IDC or the International Data Corp., said in a stement on June 12.

This contrasted with the 7.6% decline seen in South East Asia during the same period. This is the 6th quarter in a row the regional market has been contracting, according to IDC’s Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals (HCP) Tracker.

About 233,400 units of single and multifunction printers (MFP) and copiers were shipped in the first quarter, compared with only 174,000 units a year ago, IDC said.

This brought the total market revenue to US$48.2 million, an all-time high, noted IDC.

Pricing and distribution also complemented the economy, which grew by a better-than-expected 7.8% in the first quarter.

“Both consumer and commercial products (i.e., inkjet and laser printing devices) have demonstrated double-digit growth rates year on year and beat expectations due to the end-users’ receptiveness to vendors’ initiatives around PC bundling, price drops, and trade-in promotions to name a few,” said Pamela Sumanga, Market Analyst for IDC,

“Dealers, on the other hand, were more open to take in fresh stocks from vendors due to prospects of better sales on the retail front and corporate side as IT investments are projected to pick up, given the confidence on the economy,” she added. – Rappler.com
